The Energy Project through the lens of Humanities covered the political, economical, and emotional standpoint in the current crisis of energy globally. We thoroughly covered the three theories of justice and principals of the environmental justice to debate, reflect, and build consensus regarding any conflict surrounding the current situations in our area: the oil extraction in Chaco Canyon and the Hesperus Solar Project.
Justice Monologue
The Justice Monologue is an opinionated piece on what we think is a solution to solving the the issues surrounding energy in our area.
Project Reflection
Through the struggle in humanities, like the other core blocks of this unit, we took a different approach and researched the political standpoints regarding energy. From this my biggest take away was the three theories of justice the world revolves around. This being: Utilitarianism, Libertarianism, and Equality. In class we’ve done a lot to thoroughly understand these terms and how they may be applied in our modern day society; an example of this was our Justice Monologues where we had to discuss in an opinionated paper which one of these principles would be best to potentially solve the conflict around us regarding energy. Through this unit, most of us struggled while challenging our intellectual abilities; of course in different ways. Personally, I struggled with the Justice Monologue from the fact it was hard to comprehend how to make it beautiful while convincing. Through this process, I grappled with many words, sentence structures, and ideology about public health. However, in the end I created an original piece of work I'm proud of, and through the countless hours, I accomplished it.
Model United Nations within this unit, we were tasked to understand the United Nations and what they do for Earth. With this simulation, we researched countries prospective on the current treatment of women in Afghanistan; as the treatment of women in Afghanistan is very inhuman and the government is corrupt. Each of us were assigned a specific role, most of us countries to research from our assigned countries perspective, understand the order of lawful debate, and create a final resolution. Along the way we learned to find reliable sources and effectively research, nurture our ability to critically think, as well as problem solve.

Unit Reflection
My role as a chair within our Model United-Nations Unit of our Sophomore Humanities class was one of the most influential, powerful positions I let my heart open too. I enjoyed the process of learning, creating, and connecting this role with the rest of my class in a meaningful conference. The journey of writing policy papers, understanding the countless procedures, and most notably getting handed the gavel is embedded in my mindset. Being handed the iconic gavel for the first to last time was a very powerful experience, definitely my favorite by far. I felt like the power I was entrusted with was heard as my voice was very powerful during this unit. As with all units, we all grow in some form or another; just like how plants grow until they die. In this unit specifically, I feel my ability to listen and engage was a critical part in keeping things organized and orderly. My role was to facilitate the meeting and keep debates formal and calm; to do this I had to listen to the standpoints of each participating country with engaging in their debates to potentially make them better, more precise, and very understandable. I felt very prepared and comfortable for the conference. As a chair, we had to complete most of the assignments such as policy papers, and resolutions before the delegates completed them, which helped us understand what happens in the conferences. I also had to write a “script” explaining the order for all the motions and points that were to be used, which was very helpful as it pointed out things I didn't know, which was very reassuring in the conference. But with completing all of this, I was able to understand the main purpose of the conference and was able to engage with delegates as a chair since I understood. Another aspect with doing the assignments beforehand, I was able to help other delegates when drafting their resolutions, and policy papers since I already had knowledge on what to do.
